Protest/Citizens Rebuke of Carmen Ortiz to Mark Her Last Day
Leaves Behind Legacy of Injustice, Fear, and Intimidation
Wife of Imprisoned Hacktivist Martin Gottesfeld to Make Major Announcement
BOSTON, MA, December 28th, 2016 — Boston parents, students and residents plan to send US Attorney Carmen Ortiz out with a “Citizens Rebuke” protest this Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm outside of her office at the John Moakley Courthouse. Dana Gottesfeld, the wife of imprisoned hacktivist Martin Gottesfeld, will read his statement sent from the Municipal Correctional Center - NY.
Organizers hope to highlight local opposition to Carmen Ortiz’s politically aggressive style of prosecution and precedent she has set using the overly broad Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA). Many Boston area activists suffered because of Ortiz’s overzealous prosecutorial tactics including Jonathan James, Aaron Swartz, and Martin Gottesfeld.
WHAT: AUSA Carmen Ortiz Protest/Citizens
WHERE: 1 Courthouse Way, Boston, MA, John Moakley Court House
WHEN: January 11, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
In December 2016, Ortiz was officially rebuked by a federal Court of Appeals that vacated her win in a probation department scandal. Martin Healy, the Chief Counsel of the Massachusetts Bar Association, said of the case, “The fact remains that many reputations and individuals have been indelibly harmed by an overly aggressive prosecution and criminalization of purely political acts.”
Ortiz is currently prosecuting Gottesfeld, an activist, and advocate for Justina Pelletier, a 15-year-old patient who was undergoing alleged abuse at Boston Children’s Hospital. These allegations were corroborated by former BCH Psychiatric RN and whistleblower Katie Higgins, who filed a mandated reporter complaint against the hospital’s psych ward during Justina’s stay. As she told the Huffington Post:
I used the term ‘torture’ because Justina could not physically comply with the commands of BCH psychiatry clinicians, which rendered her helpless to change her circumstances. Neglect, coercion, and force were applied to achieve the goals of BCH psychiatric clinicians wanting to prove that Justina’s mental limitations and deficits were symptoms of a psychological problem – caused by her parents.
Katie Higgins, a whistleblower and former the subject of a bitter custody and medical dispute between doctors, state child protection officials, and the girl’s family. Marty explains his motives in a Huffington Post exclusive. No patients were harmed by any of the alleged charges being sought.
